Jamaican-born attorney Renatha Francis is formally sworn in as Miami-Dade County Court Judge. In August 2017, Governor Rick Scott announced her appointment to the Miami-Dade County Court.

Francis previously served in multiple positions with the First District Court Appeal, including as an attorney to Judge Scott Makar, staff attorney, and law clerk to Judge Peter Webster.

She grew up in Jamaica and is a past student of Bridgeport Primary School and St. Hugh’s High for Girls. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of the West Indies and her law degree from Florida Coastal School of Law.

Francis joins Judge Tanya Brinkley and Judge Teretha Lundy to make up the only three black women of the 123 judges currently serving Miami-Dade County.
