A former executive assistant to the Mayor, Ms. Williams will fill the seat that will be left vacant when Councilman Chris Johnson resigns Dec. 31 to join the Westchester County Board of Legislators.

Spano described Williams as an "important part of this administration for the past six years."

He said Williams started her political career working as an intern for him when he served in the state Assembly before his election as mayor.

"(She) has been somebody that really impresses you, a leader, somebody who is a tenacious fighter, a quick learner and somebody who's willing work with you and go above and beyond," Spano said.
