Dr. Tashni-Ann Dubroy is HBCU Digest's 2017 Female President of the Year

Jamaican-born Dr. Tashni-Ann Dubroy, President of Shaw University, has been awarded Female President of the Year by the HBCU Digest.

​"I am greatly humbled and honored to be receiving this award," says Dr. Dubroy, "and I offer my sincerest gratitude to the HBCU Digest and its Founding Editor, Mr. Jarrett Carter, as well as the awards committee."

From her arrival in the USA as a 17-year old immigrant from Jamaica to her current position at Shaw as one of the country’s youngest college leaders, Dr. Dubroy’s career in academia has been on a consistent and shining ascent. Her personal story is a lesson in dedication, persistence and a fierce will to overcome adversity.

Dr. E. Dale Abel to deliver 2018 University of Iowa’s 35th Annual Presidential Lecture

Jamaican-born Dr. E. Dale Abel, chair and DEO of the Department of Internal Medicine in the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, will deliver the University of Iowa’s 35th annual Presidential Lecture on Feb. 18, 2018.

“Dr. Abel is an ideal choice to present our next Presidential Lecture and will fulfill the program’s goals wonderfully—to share the most distinguished work by the University of Iowa’s best faculty with a wider audience,” says UI President J. Bruce Harreld. “I look forward to joining the community in what promises to be an engaging and enlightening lecture.”

Dr. Abel is director of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center, director of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa, and head of the Interdisciplinary Diabetes Clinic at Iowa River Landing/University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He is a professor of medicine and biochemistry and currently holds the John B. Stokes III Chair in Diabetes Research.
