Jamaica Gets Additional Area Code

​On May 31, 2018, Jamaica became the first country in the English-speaking Caribbean to utilize an additional area code – 658. 

The new area code will work alongside the existing 876 that was first assigned in 1996 when it was the view then that it would provide sufficient numbering capacity for the next 20 years of demand growth.

The Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) is looking to bring more visitors to the island through its new digital marketing campaign.

Dubbed ‘Join me in Jamaica’ the campaign features 90-second promotional videos that showcase snippets of destination Jamaica through the eyes of local celebrities and personalities.

During the first phase of the campaign, a total of eight videos were produced highlighting the country’s music, cuisine and attractions.

Among those featured are singer/songwriter, Tessanne Chin; Chef Martin Maginley of Round Hill Resort and Villas; recording artiste, Konshens; entrepreneur, Edgar “Puddin’ Man” Wallace; restaurateurs, caterers, and authors, the Rousseau Sisters; artist, Ras Natango; coffee expert at Craighton Coffee Estate, Alton Bedward; and entrepreneur and philanthropist, Bruce Croxon.

They share their stories about why they love Jamaica, while offering an invitation for visitors to join them on the island.

The online promotion targets a diverse audience, especially lovers of Jamaican music, cuisine, arts and sports icons and is designed to engage consumers and keep destination Jamaica top of mind.

The JTB advises persons to use the following hashtags to join the conversation – #joinmeinjamaica and #visitjamaica.

President Donald J. Trump Announces Intent to Nominate Donald Ray Tapia to be Ambassador of the United States of America to Jamaica

President Donald J. Trump today announced his intent to nominate the following individual to a key position in his Administration:

Donald Ray Tapia of Arizona, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Jamaica.

Mr. Tapia served as Chairman and CEO of Essco Group Management, the largest Hispanic owned business in Arizona, for over three decades. Mr. Tapia’s philanthropic efforts include serving on the Board of Directors for the Sun Angel Foundation and Endowment at Arizona State University, the Tau Kappa Epsilon Educational Foundation Board of Indianapolis, Indiana, and as Chairman of Board and Trustee at Saint Leo University. Additionally, he served on the boards of the Boys and Girls Club of Metropolitan Phoenix, Teen LifeLine Phoenix, the Advisory Council of the Arizona Animal Welfare League, and the Advisory Board for the Foundation for Blind Children in Phoenix, Arizona. Mr. Tapia is a U.S. Army veteran and received his B.A. and M.B.A. from Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, Florida, where he was later awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.
